Over the past two days, hundreds of YouTube and Twitch content creators have come together to compete in the “Squid Game” version of Minecraft.
In the last two days, hundreds of YouTube and Twitch content creators gathered to compete in the Minecraft version of the “Squid Game”. Among the most prominent are Ibai Llanos, Auronplay and Rubius. The Minecraft Squid Game event was a huge hit on Twitch. With 150 participants and as part of a Twitch Rivals, the prize for the winner was $100,000.
The competition inspired by the Netflix original series recreates its challenges within the famous video game. Each of these challenges is broadcast on the Twitch channels of the participants.
Rubius, Auronplay and Komanche are the organizers of the tournament and brought together the best streamers Spanish speakers among whom were Ibai, TheGrefg, Juan Guarnizo, among others. Lasting a week, the event was a trend on the direct video platform and Minecraft exceeded one million viewers simultaneously, marking one of the best tournaments and going down in history as the best Twitch Rivals.
“Developing and running SquidCraft Games has been without a doubt the most rewarding experience of my life. Historic moment in content creation. For me, it has been an honor to have worked on this with AuronPlay, Komanche, Rubius and Twitch Rivals. Thank you”, commented AleCuatro through his Twitter account.
The final phase of the Squid Game Minecraft competition put 24 players to the test in four challenges until the winner was known. Its about streamer Spaniard known as Ollie Gamerz.
And until then we can talk about all the characteristics of the event, but behind this other subplots were developed that caught the world’s attention.
According to reports, Andorra, a sovereign microstate located in southwestern Europe, was momentarily without internet during the second day of the tournament. And this was not because the servers were overloaded by the viewers of the game, but because the provider of that service was the victim of continuous denial of service (DDoS) attacks.
Although it has not yet been verified, it is speculated that it was a sabotage aimed at players from Andorra, who represented a considerable proportion of the 150 registered. When the service was restored after around 30 minutes of interruption, players from that country indicated the reasons why they were suddenly disconnected from the tournament.
Apparently a hacker (the group of hackers) managed to sabotage the telecommunications network of Andorra Telecom, the company that provides Internet to users in this country. In this way they managed to “lower the stream” from celebrities like Rubius or TheGrefg, preventing the Squid Game Minecraft from taking place as planned.
Andorra Telecom published a message in which they claimed that they were suffering from a DDoS attack that wreaked havoc on the country’s connection.
The next day, another DDoS attack meant the removal of all Andorran players at Squid Craft Games.
The streamers ElRubius and AuronPlay decided to take matters into their own hands to find the cybercriminal responsible for the act. Both offered 10,000 euros to whoever could find it.
“We know where the attack is coming from, we know who encouraged it. I even have the Fortnite clan the person belongs to. We have a lot of data”, said AuronPlay himself in a direct on Twitch.
SquidCraft Games will have a second season
After the great results on the Twitch platform, the Minecraft tournament inspired by The Squid Game would have a second edition, as one of the event organizers confirmed that SquidCraft Games will return in the future. The second season of this Twitch Rivals is expected to arrive in 2023. (I)
