Apple users in the US have started using the AirTag smart tag to track courier packages. This is reported by Appleinsider.
The journalists talked about the experience of the wife of a soldier, Valerie McNulty, who found a new way to use the AirTag tracker. Apple positions the device as an accessory for finding lost things. McNulty put the device in a box of belongings she had couriered to her new home during the move.
According to the woman, she and her husband got to the place earlier than the parcel with things. When the delivery date was overdue, Valerie McNulty looked through the app to find out where her package was – it turned out that the package was stuck about a few hours away from her home. The company told the client that they would be able to complete the delivery no sooner than in a few days. “I made it clear to the courier that I knew that he was only four hours away from us,” said McNulty.
In the end, the courier agreed to bring the cargo earlier and managed to hand over her things to the woman on the same day. The author spoke about her experience and advised others to use Apple’s beacons to track courier shipments: “Instead of waiting, I took matters into my own hands.”
Earlier, Apple responded to reports that AirTag smart tags were being used to spy on people. The company recommended that users contact the police if they find an ownerless beacon with them.
