FIFA has released new rules on loan transfers. Football’s governing body said they will come into effect from July 2022, at the end of the European season. These measures were made to give more space to young people and put an end to massive club loans.

The change comes from a restructuring process in the transfer scheme that has been in place since 2017, but what was supposed to be finalized in 2020, the pandemic has delayed.
Among the main changes are: limit of eight players to loan and receive, this number decreases to seven in 2023 and to six in 2024, when it becomes definitive; limit of three players loaned or received between the same two clubs; minimum period of six months and maximum of one year of loan duration.
However, the measures are not valid for athletes up to 21 years old, or those who made the base category and became professional for the club that has a contract.
