Associate Professor Maksimova: The use of public charging stations leads to a leak
The use of public charging stations can lead to infection of the device by malicious software and leakage of information. This was stated by the Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor, and Department of the KB-4 “Intellectual Systems of Information Security” by the MIREA RTU Elena Maksimova in an interview with RT.
The specialist recalled that the USB cable, which is used for charging, simultaneously serves as a data transfer means. According to the EG, hackers use this circumstance, introducing special microcontrollers into public charging stations – this, in turn, allows them to compromise your device.
The associate professor emphasized that even if the gadget is blocked, there are vulnerabilities that allow criminals to take control over the smartphone. In this case, she recommended buying Type-C cables that support exclusively charging.
Earlier, Daniil Borislavsky, director of the StaffCop product, said that forgotten accounts in social networks can become a loophole for attackers.
