TechEBlog: Steve Jobs Predicted the iPad in a 1983 Speech

Apple founder Steve Jobs predicted the invention of the portable computer in a speech more than 40 years ago, TechEBlog has noted.

A video recording of Jobs’ speech at the International Design Conference in 1983 was published by The Steve Jobs Archive project. During his speech, the entrepreneur talked about what personal computers would be like in the future and how they would change people’s lives.

According to Jobs, Apple will be able to invent a book-sized computer in the future. The device will also support wireless communication. According to the authors of TechEBlog, Steve Jobs thus predicted the emergence of compact computers and iPad tablets.

The published video was commented on by former Apple chief designer Jony Ive, who worked with Jobs for a long time. According to Ive, at that event, the Apple founder made another prediction – he said that in 1986, PC sales would exceed car sales. “These were absurd statements for the early 1980s,” Jony Ive noted, emphasizing that Jobs was right.

“Steve remains one of the best educators I have ever met in my life. He had the ability to explain incredibly abstract, complex technologies in terms that were accessible, tangible, and relevant,” concluded Jony Ive.

In early July, a recording of a speech by founder Steve Jobs was found online, in which he predicted the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI). In it, Jobs said that in the future, each person will have their own “interactive assistant.”
