Since mid-June, Tesla has been performing an over-the-air software update. Before it, the system did not detect an unlocked hood, which could lead to its uncontrolled opening while driving and a very dangerous road situation. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned Tesla that an unlocked front hatch could open completely, limiting the driver’s visibility, which increases the risk of an accident.
Tesla. Hood may open while driving
Uncontrolled hood opening was reported primarily by drivers from China. There were fewer such cases in Europe and America. However, this does not mean that there were none. Tesla received isolated reports of such a problem. The defect was analyzed from mid-April to June. Engineering tests were conducted in Europe and North America. Among other things, the latches were checked.
Tesla upgrades almost 2 million cars
No accidents are known to have occurred because of this. Tesla wants to prevent them, however, and according to , is currently conducting a large service campaign to improve the software of 1.85 million vehicles.
The potentially faulty software is said to be available for Model 3, S, X and Y cars manufactured between 2021 and 2024. Interestingly, they all have one thing in common: they are equipped with a hood latch manufactured in China by Magna Closures. Tesla is currently installing an update to these cars that will eliminate the problem. Until it is fully programmed, the affected cars will be recalled from the market.
