TrendForce: Apple did not release a foldable iPhone due to a crease in the display
Technical difficulties prevent Apple from releasing its first foldable phone. This was reported by 9to5Mac with reference to a report from TrendForce.
The company’s analysts found that Apple is still evaluating the features and performance of the foldable device’s components. The leaders of the IT giant have strict requirements for their reliability. The authors of the report cited the formation of folds on the display as the reason for the non-release of the foldable iPhone.
According to experts, Apple is trying to create a flexible screen material that would be completely smoothed out when unfolded. The company doesn’t want its devices to resemble Samsung smartphones, which have noticeable creases on the display.
Apple also believes that foldable devices are still niche products. They have a 1.5 percent share of the smartphone market, according to TrendForce. The segment is expected to grow, but not much, to 4.8 percent by 2028.
In addition, TrendForce predicted the release date of the first foldable iPhone. Analysts expect that such a device will appear no earlier than 2027.
At the end of May, it became known that Apple had patented a technology for creating a display for “eternal” flexible screens. The prototype display has an elastomer layer and can self-repair.
