From July 1, the EU directive DAC7 enters into force, which concerns administrative cooperation with online platforms in the field of taxation. The new regulations impose an obligation to inform the tax office about online transactions and are aimed at people who sell without registering a business.
Konrad Dobrowolski from OLX, quoted by PAP Biznes, notes that the directive does not mean that users of advertising websites will have additional tax obligations to meet. “We emphasize this because the analysis of media coverage carried out on our behalf shows that this is a topic with which the media want to create an incomprehensible sensation among the recipients” –
The EU takes action against dishonest sellers. They want to force them to pay taxes
The DAC7 directive obliges digital platform operators to collect and transmit to the tax administration information about sellers who have made transactions via these platforms. The regulations apply to entities such as:
- online e-commerce platforms,
- accommodation booking platforms,
- means of transport rental platforms,
- platforms for ordering car rides.
“Collecting and transmitting information to the tax administration will help reduce the phenomenon of tax evasion in the digital space. Therefore, conditions of equal competition will be restored between sellers selling their goods and services in a traditional way and sellers operating via digital platforms, as well as between sellers paying taxes reliably and sellers who have so far evaded tax” –
As far as sales platforms are concerned, they will have to provide information about all sellers, except for those who made less than 30 transactions of this type during the year and the total remuneration for these transactions did not exceed the equivalent of PLN 2,000 in a given year. euro.
Allegro assures that once the regulations are implemented, they will become a market standard, and the company is preparing the data collection process to be as least burdensome for sellers as possible.
Online sales under the microscope. The Minister of Finance explains
The DAC7 directive aroused a lot of emotions. There have been reports that the tax office will also be able to control people buying on e-commerce platforms. The matter was so serious that the Minister of Finance himself had to deny the rumors. – We are only talking about online sales transactions –
It is possible that people selling online who do not have a registered business and are detected thanks to the DAC7 directive will receive behavioral letters from the tax office. The tax office uses this tool to give you a chance to contact the Tax Office to clarify and obtain details of the case, which will ultimately serve to register your business.
