Counterpoint: Samsung has become the leader in the smartphone market, overtaking Apple

The South Korean corporation Samsung became the leader in the global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2024. This was reported in a report by Counterpoint Research.

The company’s analysts called Samsung the largest smartphone manufacturer – the company received a share of 20 percent. The Korean IT giant overtook Apple, which ended the quarter with a share of 17 percent. Xiaomi was in third position with a share of 14 percent. Below are Oppo and Vivo – 8 and 7 percent, respectively.

Experts also said that the smartphone market showed a recovery – year-on-year shipments increased by 6 percent, to 296.9 million units. During this period, Xiaomi’s shipments grew the fastest – over the year the figure increased by 34 percent.

American Apple turned out to be the leader in ASP (average selling price, average selling price) of smartphones, the figure was $900. Samsung sold the average device for $336, Oppo for $257. The average ASP for the quarter reached $370.

Earlier, experts from DigiTimes said that prices for computers, components and other equipment will rise.
