Zhurova accused the Swiss Supreme Court of delaying Valieva’s doping case

First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova accused the Swiss Supreme Court of deliberately delaying the doping case of figure skater Kamila Valieva. Her comment is quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to Zhurova, in Switzerland the process was initially delayed for two years, although such cases are considered within a month. “I don’t believe they will reconsider the decision. If there were no politics, there would be an opportunity. But now this is impossible. The commander’s gold will also have to be taken from the Americans. Who will do this? – noted the deputy.

On March 1, the Supreme Court registered an appeal against the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to disqualify Valieva due to the doping scandal. It is noted that if the court sides with the skater, the case will return to CAS for review.

On January 30, the 2022 Olympics team tournament medals were redistributed due to Valieva’s disqualification and cancellation of results. The Russian team moved from first to third place, gold went to the USA, silver to Japan.

On January 29, Valieva was disqualified for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The period of suspension is counted from the moment the sample is taken – December 25, 2021. The fact that traces of the banned drug trimetazidine were found in it became known after the end of the team tournament at the Beijing Games.
