The ability to install applications on iPad bypassing the App Store will appear in the fall

Apple has confirmed that iPads will be able to install applications bypassing the App Store. This was reported by MacRumors with reference to company materials.

Representatives of the IT giant confirmed that they will transfer all changes related to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) from the iOS platform to iPadOS. Thus, users will be able to install applications on tablets from alternative stores on both iPhone and iPad. The changes will affect users from European Union (EU) countries.

The company also revealed the timing of the appearance of third-party stores with applications on iPadOS – this will happen in the fall. Media journalists suggested that by this time Apple specialists will adapt the platform to the changes.

The corporation explained the changes for developers. Apple will charge additional fees to alternative stores that have more than one million installs per year. In this case, downloading the application on both iPhone and iPad by one user will be considered one installation.

In early April, European Union (EU) Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton assessed the likelihood of the American company Apple leaving the European market. According to Breton, this is impossible, since the corporation will not allow itself to lose a market with 450 million consumers.
