CNBC: Apple smartphone sales in China fell by 19 percent

Counterpoint Research specialists have recorded a sharp drop in iPhone sales in China. CNBC TV channel reports this.

According to the agency, sales of Apple smartphones fell by 19.1 percent in the first quarter of the year. This is primarily associated with the success of Huawei Corporation in the local market, which over the same period increased sales by 69.7 percent.

This was largely due to the release of the Huawei Mate 60 series smartphones. It is reported that analysts remained skeptical about the new line due to production problems caused by Huawei being on the US sanctions list. However, the brand’s flagships turned out to be extremely popular.

Huawei, despite its success, is the fourth largest smartphone company in China. Apple is in third place. “Apple’s sales were weak during the quarter as Huawei’s comeback directly impacted Apple in the premium segment,” Counterpoint Research senior analyst Ivan Lam said.

Overall, smartphone sales in China rose 1.5 percent year on year in the first three months of the year. Counterpoint analysts do not expect single-digit growth in the market in 2024.

In mid-April, IDC experts said that sales of Android smartphones in 2024 will grow faster than iPhone sales. This is partly due to the growth in smartphone sales in the Chinese market.
