HardwareLuxx: Intel processors reduced power by 8-9 percent due to errors

Motherboard manufacturer ASUS had to reduce the power of new Intel processors due to performance problems. This was reported by HardwareLuxx.

The authors noticed that ASUS has released a BIOS update containing the Intel Baseline Profile. With the new settings, the performance problem disappears, but the power of the chips is noticeably reduced.

Experts tested the Intel Core i9-14900K processor before and after downloading the new profile. It turned out that in single-threaded mode in Cinebench R23 performance drops by only 1 percent. However, in multi-threaded mode this figure reaches 9 percent. In the Y-Cruncher benchmark, the decline is 11 percent.

At the same time, energy consumption drops by 20 percent and the temperature drops by 12 percent. The authors noted that they tested processors at a resolution of 720 pixels. This means that when running games at higher resolutions, the power drop on Intel processors can be even more significant.

In early April, owners of gaming computers based on Intel processors spoke about crashes and other problems. It turned out that in some cases an error occurs that the processor does not have enough memory, although system reports indicate the opposite.
