The first third-party app store has been released for iPhone, AltStore PAL
The first third-party app store has become available to iPhone users in the European Union (EU). But it caught the attention of The Verge.
AltStore PAL was created thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), passed in the EU in March. To use the store you need to connect a paid subscription, it costs 1.5 euros per year. According to journalists, this is how the store’s creators pay Apple’s commission.
The store also includes a Delta emulator, which allows you to run console games for NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. The alternative store also released the Clip clipboard manager application.
According to the authors of The Verge, before installing AltStore PAL, you will have to respond three times to Apple’s warnings, which say that the store configured on the iPhone allows you to download applications bypassing the App Store. Journalists also noted that AltStore, a repository with applications not permitted for publication in the App Store, has existed since 2019.
In mid-March, it became known that Apple would allow applications to be downloaded directly to the iPhone, bypassing the App Store. In this case, software developers will have to meet certain criteria.
