Although more than 2.5 years have passed since the premiere of Windows 11, the most popular version of Microsoft’s operating system is still “Ten”. Statcounter data published in December 2023 shows that Windows 10 had almost 67.5 percent at that time. market shares, while the latest “windows” are installed on computers by 26.5 percent. users.
The company from Redmond is going out of its way to encourage us to switch to the latest version of its OS. It does this through requests (the update is free) and threats (older editions of Windows 10 may soon lose access to security patches).
Windows 11 with ads. How to turn them off
However, the latest ideas of the Redmond company regarding the latest Windows are unlikely to endear this system to users. It turns out that Microsoft wants to stuff more advertising content into “Eleven”, which the company calls “recommendations”.
Such a trace was found by one of the users of the X portal, PhantomOcean3, who is considered a reliable source and has already revealed Microsoft’s plans regarding new features in Windows in the past. As he noticed, in one of the test versions of the system, advertisements for external applications appeared in the Start menu in the “Recommended” section (marked with the note “Promoted”).
Another Albacre user noticed that a new “Recommended” button will be added to the Windows 11 taskbar, where advertising content may also potentially be displayed.
For now, it is possible to block the display of ads. To do this, go to System Settings, go to the Personalization section, and then to the Start section. Then uncheck the “Show recommendations for tips, shortcuts, new apps and more” option.

Windows 10 will be retired. Do you want to use it safely? pay
Next year, Microsoft will officially end technical support for Windows 10. Companies and people who have not switched to Windows 10 will have to pay dearly for security updates.
Back in December 2023, Canalys predicted that after the end of support for Windows 10, up to 240 million computers around the world would become “electronic waste” due to lack of compatibility with the latest version of Windows.
Now Microsoft has announced in a post on its official blog that even after the end of support for Windows 11, users will still be able to use security updates. But not for free. The ESU (Extend Security Updates) package for Windows 10 will cost $61 (approximately PLN 250) in the first year. This price is for one computer (station). If we want to extend the update for another year, the amount will increase to $120, and in the third year – up to $240. The offer applies to both companies and private users.
