The National Broadcasting Council took further steps regarding the reportage “Bielmo. Franciszkañska 3” broadcast on TVN. Chairman Maciej ¦wirski called on the station to pay, when the time to pay PLN 550,000 expired, he decided to collect the debt.

On March 6, the National Broadcasting Council announced that it had imposed a fine on TVN in connection with the reportage “Bielmo. Franciszkańska 3” by Marcin Gutowski. Information was provided that “TVN SA violated Article 18(1) and (2) of the Broadcasting Act by broadcasting the program entitled ‘Bielmo. Franciszkańska 3′”. Chairman Maciej Świrski called on TVN to stop broadcasting the material and imposed a fine of PLN 550,000 on the station.

On the KRRiT website it was possible to read that after the broadcast of the above-mentioned reportage, the National Council received a record number of complaints. “6,058 speeches were registered (e-mails, forms from the website, applications via the ePUAP platform and letters sent by traditional mail). These speeches contained 39,613 signatures of citizens expressing their opposition to the content of the program,” we read.

TVN did not pay the fine on time for violating the above-mentioned article. Therefore, Świrski announced on Twitter that he had decided to pursue debt collection. “Since the broadcaster TVN SA failed to pay on time the fine in the amount of PLN 550,000 imposed for violating Article 18(1) and (2) of the Radio and Television Act in the broadcast ‘Franciszkańska 3’, I decided to collect budget receivables from the penalized party for the State Treasury,” we read. in the entry. The National Broadcasting Council wants to recover not only the amount of the penalty, but also the interest accrued during the delay.

In the justification of the decision of the National Broadcasting Council after the broadcast of the report, it was emphasized that the journalist’s material was based on documents of the Security Service from the period of the Polish People’s Republic, which had not been verified. It was reported that the creators of the material showed a lack of objectivity and even used manipulative techniques, insinuations and referred to rumors. “No in-depth research was carried out, events were not linked, and the entire narrative was adapted to the previously stated thesis. Analysis of the material showed the presence of content in the program that was contrary to the law and social good, harming religious feelings, in this particular case of Catholics, and disinforming public opinion. When issuing the decision, , the chairman of the National Broadcasting Council emphasized that media freedom and freedom of public expression are not limitless,” we read on the National Broadcasting Council’s website.

Marcin Gutowski, in his reportage “Bielmo. Franciszkańska 3”, presented evidence that was supposed to confirm that in the years 1964-1978, the Metropolitan of Krakow, Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, covered up the pedophilia of priests subordinated to him.
