Hackers bombarded iPhone owners with notifications

ArsTechnica: a new way to hack an iPhone using notifications has been found

Security expert Brian Krebs has found a new way to hack an iPhone. This was reported by ArsTechnica.

The expert pointed to the new MFA Fatigue hacking campaign as it relates to multi-factor authentication (MFA) on Apple devices. During this attack, the attacker sends a huge number of password reset notifications to the victim’s smartphone.

Krebs noted that the hacker literally bombarded his target with notifications, forcing him to accidentally click on the “Reset Password” button. After the reset, the user receives a call purporting to be from Apple support and is tricked into providing a new password.

According to startup Parth Patel, who faced a similar attack, he received more than 100 notifications on his smartphone, laptop and other Apple devices in a short period of time. Patel noted that the notices are urgent and cannot be ignored.

In turn, Krebs said that to attack a user, you need to know the email associated with the victim’s Apple ID. In this case, you can send messages to his device about allegedly hacking his password.

At the end of March, Apple responded to the antitrust lawsuit of the US Department of Justice. The company said that American authorities want to turn the iPhone into Android.
