IOC head Bach announced that Russia and Ukraine have no plans to boycott the Olympics
Russia and Ukraine have no plans to boycott the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. This was announced by the head of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, as quoted by TASS.
According to him, the discussion about the desire of individual countries not to send athletes to France is over. “Opinions continue to differ: some say we have gone too far with sanctions against those who violated the Olympic Charter, others say we have not gone far enough,” Bach said.
According to the functionary, these discontent show that the IOC did everything right. “If one side was happy, the other would be extremely unhappy, and then we would be faced with real problems,” Bach said.
In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. Athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have ties to the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be able to take part in the competition. Representatives of team sports will also miss the tournament.
