The Register: experts have found a way to protect computers from the GoFetch attack

Security experts have proposed a solution to the GoFetch vulnerability on Mac computers. This was reported by The Register.

Media journalists recalled the GoFetch attack, which affected all Mac computers based on Apple Silicon processors. An attack based on the hardware data prefetch (DPM) optimization function allows data to be stolen. The material says that a way has been found to protect the device from an irreparable vulnerability.

First of all, experts noted that on the M3 chip the DPM function can simply be disabled, thus solving the problem. This cannot be done on M1 and M2 processors. However, the vulnerability is known to be related to Firestorm cores. According to experts, if you configure DPM to work on Icestorm cores, the problem will be solved.

“Running processes on efficiency-oriented Icestorm cores will necessarily be slower, but at least it will be safe,” the authors emphasized. Journalists noted that they were waiting for patches from Apple.

In early February, enthusiasts created the first exploit for the Apple Vision Pro headset. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate student Joseph Ravichandran said that a jailbreak for AR glasses could be created based on it.
