iFixit: the new MacBook Air has an improved SSD drive

iFixit specialists showed on video the internal parts of the new Apple computer. The video is available on the project’s YouTube channel.

The authors were able to easily remove the back cover of the M3-powered MacBook Air presented in early March by unscrewing the screws and unfastening the clips. Then the specialists disassembled all the computer parts – the motherboard, processor, battery, keyboard and display.

Enthusiasts found out that the laptop received an improved SSD drive. It turned out that the base model has two flash memory chips with a capacity of 128 gigabytes, which together form 256 gigabytes of built-in memory. This provides higher data transfer speeds compared to older devices in the series.

The tests revealed that on the SSD in the MacBook Air on the M3 chip, the write speed is 33 percent higher and the reading speed is 82 percent higher. Experts compared the laptop with the previous generation model – MacBook Air with an M2 processor. Moreover, models of both generations have almost identical design and layout of internal parts. The laptop’s maintainability rating was five on a ten-point scale.
