Deputy Matveychev called the mass destruction of Apple equipment in the Russian Federation a fake
The message that tens of thousands of Apple devices could be destroyed in Russia is a fake, said Oleg Matveychev, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Information Technologies and Communications. So, in a conversation with Lenta.ru, he spoke about the destruction of equipment in the country.
“They are deliberately dispersing it in order to scare our citizens who use Apple that they may have some problems, and thus turn them against the authorities,” the deputy noted.
According to Matveychev, Russian government employees were indeed advised not to use Apple technology at work because the device’s applications could be unsafe. However, no one prohibited using the American brand for personal purposes, he added.

“As for the deputies of the State Duma and regional parliaments, they did not even have such recommendations. There are no such plans either. It has not been proven anywhere that there are surveillance, downloads, and so on. There is a theoretical possibility of this. Therefore, just in case, they are reinsured,” said the deputy.
The parliamentarian explained that if Apple technology is proven to be unsafe, then no one will deliberately destroy the devices and hold tenders for this.
“Perhaps in Perm there was such an isolated situation that the administration bought Apple equipment, and it hung on the administration’s balance sheet. And since an order was issued that this equipment should not be used for official purposes, they did not know what to do with it. It is possible that they decided to destroy it. But in the end, it could have been transferred to the regional property committee, and it would have sold this equipment,” concluded Matveychev.
Earlier, leading analyst of Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin said that tens of thousands of Apple devices could be destroyed in Russia. According to him, the reason for this will be a ban on the use of Apple equipment for Russian civil servants and officials.
Murtazin said that he was recently in Perm, where the city administration held a tender for the destruction of 26 pieces of equipment.
