The Confederation wants to cancel “one of the most ridiculed taxes” in Poland

On Tuesday, the Confederation proposed abolishing the TV license fee. As its representatives explained, there are specific arguments behind making such a decision.

Radio and TV license fee to be canceled! This is the Confederation’s demand and it must be emphasized right away: it is a hard and serious demand

– MP. He explained that this is not “any whim”, but a manifestation of the party’s thinking about the state, which assumes that citizens should not be excessively burdened fiscally (note here: , and not the general term “excessive burden”).

The Confederation wants to cancel the RTV license fee

– It should be rational. In Poland, this issue is definitely over-regulated, the burdens are too high – and we have to start somewhere. We can start by abolishing the radio and television industry. But this is not just a postulate, there are really strong arguments behind it. First of all, it is not right for Poles to pay for something they do not use, said Krzysztof Tuduj.

The second argument is the mission of public media. This – as the MP said – was not implemented and we were dealing with pure party propaganda. The politician also attacked journalists, whom he called propagandists of the ruling party. He also recalled the issue of public media employees from the PiS era. – All Poles contribute to maintaining the propaganda. Meanwhile, some propagandists of the previous government earned several million zlotys, Tuduj said. The current authorities and their orders at TVP also happened due to the failure to disclose the earnings of current public media employees. – We are dealing with a continuation of the same thing, that is, “if our people earn millions, it is good, and if your people earn millions, it is bad,” Tuduj said.

The MP Roman Łazarski, who accompanied him, called the RTV subscription “one of the most ridiculed in the Polish system.” He also recalled that until recently, representatives of the Confederation could not appear in public media. – The Confederation received the so-called ban on public media. As a political force with the support of over one and a half million Poles, the Confederation was not shown in the public media, said Łazarski.

You still have to pay the RTV license fee, even though public media have been put into liquidation

Minister of Culture Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz put TVP, Polish Radio and the Polish Press Agency into liquidation. Does this mean that you can “forgo” paying the TV license fee? No, nothing changes in this regard. A radio and television license fee is charged to every Pole who owns a receiver.

The license fee is determined by the National Broadcasting Council for a given year. From January 1, the following rates apply:

  • The 1-month fee for the radio receiver is PLN 8.70 per month (if the subscriber pays the fee each month, then the fee for 12 months will be PLN 104.40).
  • The 1-month fee for a television or television and radio receiver is PLN 27.30 per month (if the subscriber pays the fee every month, then the fee for 12 months will be PLN 327.60).
