Ice cold, personal, family or in any format, Coca-Cola is drunk, a drink that is more than 135 years old in the world, and close to 100 in Ecuador.
This product arrived in Guayaquil in 1927 in a shipment of glass bottles in three boxes. Thirteen years later, the Guayaquil Bottling Company emerged as the entity responsible for inaugurating the production and distribution of Coca-Cola in Ecuador, explains Mariana Rosalba, general manager of Coca-Cola Ecuador.
But it didn’t stop at this product, the company expanded its portfolio to include Fanta, Sprite, Fioravanti, Dasani water (with and without gas), Jugos Del Valle, isotonic drinks with Powerade and others.

The Coca-Cola system, according to the CEO, is made up of the company and its bottling partners. And so they have been working with their bottling partner Arca Continental for 12 years.
The refreshing drink comes in 95% of Ecuadorian homes, says Rosalba. “Coca-Cola is present throughout Ecuador. In moments to share with family, friends, work, special moments, meetings or simply lunch,” he comments.
Currently, the beverage portfolio of the Coca-Cola Ecuador system consists of: Coca-Cola with original taste, Coca-Cola without sugar and Coca-Cola with light taste, in personal and family presentations. “Each container adapts to consumer preferences and moments of purchase, from lightweight rPET transportable presentations to returnable, environmentally friendly containers,” he claims.

Edison Pinta, operations manager of Arca Continental, notes that together with Coca-Cola, they have invested $64 million for the period from 2022 to 2024 with the aim of continuing the plan to accelerate returns.

“We have returnable packaging in glass and plastic presentations, which has a lifespan of up to 10 years and can be used up to 50 times,” says Pinta, who assures that when the reusable container ends its life cycle, recycle it to turn it into new packaging or other products, reducing waste.
How do you do that?
It was on May 8, 1886, while pharmacist John S. Pemberton was working with a formula of medicinal principle based on syrup (still a secret) and natural water, he accidentally mixed this compound with carbonated water. And so he got the refreshing drink that is today Coca Cola.
Bottles returned from the market are washed like glass bottles in Arca Continental’s production facility before filling.
Then they have an electronic inspection and when they complete this step, those bottles are filled.

At the end of production, the drinks are distributed in quantities of 300 milliliters, one liter and two liters to different points of sale throughout the country.
And in this way, Coca-Cola and Arca Continental work with these and other products within the framework of the circular economy by designing sustainable packaging.
