ArsTechnica: Apple will pay compensation to iPhone owners due to batteries
Apple has started paying out money to iPhone users affected by battery problems. This was reported by ArsTechnica.
Journalists recalled that in March 2020, the American company settled a dispute with users who accused Apple of slowing down smartphones with worn-out batteries. The corporation acknowledged the problem, saying that in this way they protected the iPhone from sudden shutdowns.
According to the agreements reached, the company must spend at least $310 million, but not more than $500 million, on compensation. The IT giant had to give out $25 to each owner of an Apple smartphone who submitted an application. However, the authors of ArsTechnica found that the amount of compensation for unknown reasons increased almost fourfold – to $92.
Media journalists explained why it took almost four years to pay compensation. According to experts, firstly, class action lawsuits have been pending for quite a long time, and secondly, some owners of Apple smartphones opposed the settlement agreement.
At the end of 2023, it became known that Apple had agreed to pay compensation to users who may have been harmed by branded advertising. Gadget owners who apply will be able to receive $30.
