Bloomberg: Ban on sale of Apple watches can be settled with compensation
The head of Masimo, Joe Kiani, whose complaint led to Apple Watch sales being banned in the United States, named a way to resolve the problem before the trial and lift the ban. An interview with him is published by Bloomberg.
According to Kiani, his company wants to resolve the conflict with Apple, due to which sales of smartwatches were banned in the United States. The top manager noted that Tim Cook Corporation will have to pay compensation and apologize. “It takes two to tango. But they didn’t even call,” said the head of Masimo.
Joe Kiani also noted that he would like to work with Apple and develop medical technologies. In particular, to improve the function of determining the level of blood oxygen saturation, because of which Masimo accused Apple of stealing patents.
“This is not an accidental violation – this is a deliberate taking of our intellectual property,” Kiani said, noting that the company was caught “putting its hand in the cookie jar.” The Masimo executive also commented on the possibility that US President Joe Biden would veto the ban, calling it a “trick” by Apple.
Previously, the US International Trade Commission (USITC) banned Apple from selling smartwatches due to a lost patent dispute with Masimo. Sales of gadgets will stop until the end of 2023.
