On the night from Thursday to Monday, Polish Television’s digital terrestrial channels were transferred from the old system to the newer DVB-T2 standard. During the first period, the previous broadcasting standard was disabled in the West Pomeranian, Pomeranian, Lubuskie, Greater Poland, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lower Silesian, Łódź, Opole and Silesian voivodeships.
A large group of Poles woke up without access to TVP
Commercial stations introduced the new standard last year. In 2023, the change applies only to channels. Changing the terrestrial TV signal to DVB-T2 means the need to replace older TV sets or decoders. Devices that are not adapted to the new standard have stopped or will stop receiving TVP channels in a few days.
The vast majority of consumers already use DVB-T2 compatible TV sets, but a certain group is still delaying the replacement of the receiver. It is estimated that these may number several dozen or even several hundred thousand households. that there are approximately 200,000 old receivers that are not adapted to receive the new standard. households in the country. All these people woke up on Friday without access to TVP programs, and the same thing awaits the next group on the night from Monday to Tuesday, when the old standard will no longer be broadcast across the country.
Purchasing equipment that supports the new standard does not have to involve a large expense. Currently, not only all new ones, but also slightly older ones (such as TV models from two or three years ago) support DVB-T2. You can always decide to buy an additional DVB-T2 decoder, the prices of which start from several dozen zlotys.
Three TVP channels disappear. I’ll double them instead
– TVP Polonia, Alfa TVP and Belsat TV. In their place, the more frequently watched TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info will appear (we will see them under the numbers previously reserved for TVP Polonia, Alfa TVP and Belsat TV). They will be duplicated, i.e. broadcast on two multiplexes at the same time (and visible on TV sets in two places). This state of affairs will last until January 13 next year.
“For the sake of viewers, to provide them with additional time to retune their equipment, Telewizja Polska will temporarily modify the programming offer on terrestrial television. From December 15, a temporary, parallel broadcast of TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info programs will be launched on the sixth multiplex. They will appear on positions on the remote control: 19 – TVP1; 28 – TVP2; 36 – TVP Info instead of TVP Polonia, Alfa TVP and Belsat TV broadcast there so far. Consequently, in the period from December 15, 2023 to January 13, 2024, TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info will be broadcast simultaneously from two multiplexes,” TVP announced last Sunday.
