The Elec: Apple will introduce the first frameless iPhone in 2027

Apple partners have begun developing under-screen cameras for the iPhone. This was reported by the Korean publication The Elec.

In particular, LG Innotek has begun developing a front camera located under the display. The presence of such a camera will eliminate the need to build various types of cutouts into the screen and will bring Apple closer to the appearance of the first full-screen iPhone.

According to an insider report, LG’s Innotek subsidiary LG Display has also started developing similar camera modules. It is reported that Apple has already received a test sample, but rated its quality as unsatisfactory. Sources have revealed the timing of the release of Apple’s first full-screen smartphone – according to their estimates, such a device will be released in 2027. However, at first the in-display camera will appear only in Pro models.

Journalists from The Elec clarified that LG Display engineers are currently aiming to increase the light transmittance of the new camera module to 20 percent by the end of 2023 and to 40 percent by 2024.

In the latest Apple smartphones, the front camera and Face ID sensors were located in special cutouts. In 2017, the company introduced the so-called “unibrow”, in 2022 – the “island” Dynamic Island.

Earlier, Lenta.ru journalists named the best smartphones of 2023. The list includes Xiaomi Redmi 12C, Infinix Note 30, Samsung Galaxy A34, OnePlus Nord 3, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, iPhone 15 and other devices.
