Bloomberg: Apple will develop a computer with cellular support
Apple will add a cellular modem to its computers. Bloomberg reports this.
According to agency columnist Mark Gurman, Apple has been working on its own modem since 2018. The specialist clarified that the company intends to equip smartphones, tablets, smart watches and computers with modems. The modem will be integrated into the device processor.
Gurman said that the presence of a cellular modem will allow Apple computers to connect to the Internet without Wi-Fi. According to insider estimates, the company will need two or three years to develop this device. In addition to laptops, a built-in modem will appear in tablets and smart watches.
An insider said that Apple had previously considered introducing cellular support into computers. The company was going to equip the MacBook Air with a modem, but former Apple CEO Steve Jobs abandoned this idea. According to Gurman, a separate modem would take up too much space.
Earlier it became known that Apple, due to problems with Vision Pro, would launch the augmented reality headset for sale later than planned. The device’s release was tentatively scheduled for March.
