The various leaders of Latin American governments began to speak out after Javier Milei’s victory in the Argentine presidential elections was officially declared.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva this Sunday wished “good luck and success” to Argentina’s new government.

“I wish the new government much happiness and success. Argentina is a great country and deserves all our respect. “Brazil will always be available to work with our Argentine brothers,” Lula wrote.

Uruguay’s President Luis Lacalle Pou also greeted Milei, telling them they “need to work together a lot.”

“I greet President-elect Javier Milei. We have a lot to work together and improve our bilateral relations,” the president, who has been in China since this Saturday on an official mission to the Asian giant, wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The Vice President, Beatriz Argimón, who acted as President in the absence of Lacalle Pou, also sent a greeting to the newly elected President Javier Milei, who obtained 55.86% of the votes and 91.81% of the tables counted, and he wished him “good luck. in his administration.”

“Congratulations to the President-elect of the Argentine Republic, Javier Milei, and the Vice President-elect, Victoria Villarruel. We wish them success in their management and wish the best for the entire Argentine people. In the same way, we will continue to strengthen ties between our sister countries,” he published in X.

Chilean President Gabriel Boric also offered his congratulations and expressed his willingness to work with the new government.

“I salute Javier Milei for his victory and Sergio Massa for his dignified admission of defeat. I wish the Argentine people the best and know that they will always have our respect and support,” the president wrote in a message published on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Highlighting the “democratic day” that Argentina has witnessed, Boric added: “As President of Chile, I will work tirelessly to keep our sister countries united and working together for the good of all.”

The government of Peru expressed its “warm congratulations” and wished Milei success.

“Peru warmly congratulates Milei on his election as President of the Argentine Republic. By wishing him the greatest success in his government, he renews his commitment to continue strengthening the historic ties of friendship and cooperation that unite our countries,” the Peruvian presidency said in its account on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

Moreover, he welcomed “the democratic vocation expressed by the Argentine people on this successful election day” and expressed “hope for their progress and well-being.”

President Guillermo Lasso also spoke about the election results.

On the other hand, Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro lamented that “the far right has won” in Argentina, adding that the election of Javier Milei as the next president is “sad news for Latin America.”

“The far right won in Argentina; It is your society’s decision. Sad for Latin America and we will see… neoliberalism no longer has a proposal for society, it cannot respond to the current problems of humanity,” Petro reflected in his X report.

In recent days, the Colombian president had asked Argentinians to vote for Massa and against the “barbarism” he attributes to Milei. “Do not doubt. You should never vote for barbarism and you should always vote for hope,” he published on his social networks. (JO)
