The premiere of the iPhone 15 is behind us. We have already learned the Polish prices of new Apple devices. This time, the company from Cupertino positively surprised us. All this year’s iPhones are cheaper than iPhone 14 on the day of their premiere. And it’s much cheaper, because the price reduction reaches up to PLN 700-800,
Of course, this is not a sign of great good nature from Apple. We benefited primarily from the fact that the dollar is much cheaper today than in September last year (despite the weakening of the zloty in recent days), which translated into the final price of iPhone 15 in PLN.
iPhone index. How much does a Pole have to work to buy an Apple device?
However, just because it’s cheaper doesn’t mean it’s cheap. Because it definitely isn’t. This is confirmed by the “iPhone Index”. compares average earnings in individual countries with the price of an Apple smartphone, and more specifically iPhone 15 Pro (128 GB).
In Poland, this variant was priced at PLN 5,999Ł (PLN 500 cheaper than last year’s flagship). In turn, the average salary in the country, according to the Central Statistical Office data, is currently: PLN 7,481 gross, i.e PLN 5,249 net. This means that the average “Kowalski” needs 23.2 business days to save up for the purchase of an iPhone 15 Pro. Of course, only on the assumption that he saves all the money he earns during this time.
Interestingly, compared to the result from last year, the number of days required decreased by as much as 4.4 days. However, this is not due to the fact that the iPhone is cheap today, but rather because it was absurdly expensive last year (although that is still an understatement).
This is how the “iPhone Index” in Poland has developed over the last 6 years:
- 2018 – 32.5 days
- 2019 – 31.8 days
- 2020 – 28.3 days
- 2021 – 25.9 days
- 2022 – 27.6 days
- 2023 – 23.2 days

Despite the improvement in the situation, Poland is still very high on the list of countries whose citizens can buy an iPhone they have to work the longest hours. Those who fare worse than us include: Portugal (25.1 days), Hungary (26.9), Mexico (40.8), Brazil (66.6). He is an absolute record holder (in the negative sense of the word). Türkiye. The average Turkish has to work almost 124 days to buy an iPhone 15 Pro.
He will earn money for a new iPhone the fastest average resident Switzerland – in just 4.2 days. Average American will be able to afford to buy a novelty after working 5.3 days, and an Australian after 6.3 days. An average person would have to work longer (but still much shorter than the Pole) on the iPhone 14 German – 9.5 days.
Why is the price in Poland not the equivalent of $999?
Price given during the Apple presentation does not include sales tax. You can only buy an iPhone at this price in four US states. In other states, state and local sales tax is also added (but the maximum is -9.55%). In Poland, the tax on goods and services, i.e. VAT, is 23%.
Methodology and data source
This year’s iPhone rate was calculated based on the official prices of iPhone 15 Pro (128 GB), provided by local Apple locations or authorized resellers. Average wages come from the websites of statistical offices or relevant ministries and are valid as of the date of publication of iPhone prices in a given country.
Net wages were obtained using salary calculators. The monthly salary was divided by 21 – the average number of working days in a month. In countries where statistical offices use weekly rates, the salary is divided by 5.
