The Finnish team will not perform at the World Team Gymnastics Championships because of the Russians
The Finnish team will not compete at the World Team Championships in aesthetic gymnastics due to the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in the competition. This was reported on the website of the Finnish Gymnastics Federation.
“In this situation, we had no choice but to refuse to participate in the tournament. The situation is very unfortunate for our athletes, who have been training and preparing for the World Championships all year,” the statement said. It is noted that the Estonian team is also boycotting the tournament.
The World Championships in aesthetic gymnastics, which is not an Olympic event, will be held from November 24 to 26 in Almaty (Kazakhstan). The Board of the International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics (IFAGG) did not exclude Russian and Belarusian teams from the number of participants in the competition, leaving the decision on admission to the organizing country.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee.
