The Independent: Apple welcomes the USB-C port, although it has previously criticized the connector
Apple will welcome the appearance of the USB-C connector in its smartphones. This is reported by The Independent newspaper.
The journalists of the publication found out how Apple will advertise the appearance of the USB-C connector in their smartphones. Media sources said that the company will note the convenience of ditching Lightning in favor of the new connector and emphasize that users will be able to charge all their devices through a single wire.
At the same time, the authors of the newspaper accused the corporation of hypocrisy. According to The Independent columnist Andrew Griffin, the company has previously criticized the European Union (EU) law, according to which all gadgets sold in the region must have a single charging port. So, in October 2022, Apple’s vice president of marketing Greg Joswiak noted that the company does not welcome the new rules, but will be forced to obey them.
The material says that in fact the corporation is unhappy with the transition to USB-C. In particular, Apple will lose revenue from the production and licensing of Lightning-accessories for the iPhone. In conclusion, Andrew Griffin noted that the company could release USB-C smartphones only for EU countries, but this would cause confusion among users and complicate the supply chain.
At the end of August, Bloomberg sources said that in addition to the iPhone 15 series smartphones, AirPods Pro headphones will receive a USB-C port. The announcement of the device is also scheduled for September 12.
