Bloomberg: Huawei received a processor for smartphones, despite US sanctions
Chinese tech giant Huawei has been successful in circumventing U.S. sanctions. It is reported by Bloomberg.
The journalists of the agency noted that Huawei, which has been under sanctions since May 2019, recently announced the flagship Mate 60 Pro. Experts studied the device and came to the conclusion that the corporation was successful in circumventing the restrictions – otherwise it would not have been able to release a smartphone with a modern processor.
TechInsights engineers, at the request of Bloomberg, disassembled the Mate 60 Pro and studied its components. Experts managed to find out that the phone has a Kirin 9000s processor, created using a seven-nanometer process technology. The chip was created by partner Huawei Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. (SMIC). TechInsights noted that Huawei and the Chinese government have been successful in building their own ecosystem of advanced processors.
TechInsights Vice Chairman Dan Hutcheson said the Kirin 9000s is “a very important announcement for China.” Bloomberg reporters concluded that the release of the flagship Mate 60 Pro raises questions about the effectiveness of the US-led global campaign to prevent China from accessing advanced technologies.
At the end of August, Bloomberg journalists found out that the Chinese IT giant Huawei was engaged in the production of chips. The corporation received about $30 billion in state funding for this.
