Reactions to the assassination of presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio continue. Several governments in the region have been discussing this in recent hours.

The crime took place after 6:00 pm; Villavicencio was shot three times in the head and was taken to the Women’s Clinic, where his death was confirmed.

Six people have been arrested for the crime, the prosecutor’s office said. After midnight, President Guillermo Lasso ordered a state of emergency for 60 days. The National Electoral Council confirmed that the election process will continue on the scheduled date, which is 20 August.
