Biathlete Dmitry Shamaev, who plays for the Romanian national team, spoke about the attitude of foreigners towards Russians at international tournaments. His words are quoted by Match TV.
According to Shamaev, the athletes were divided into two camps at the World Cup. “For example, acquaintances from France, Germany, Lithuania, during training or after the race, they said that they were waiting for the Russian team. At the same time, some give interviews where they say that everything is right, they should be suspended, ”he shared.
Shamaev changed citizenship in 2021. As part of the Russian national team, the biathlete twice won the World Junior Championship in relay races, and also won gold in the mixed relay race at the European Junior Championships.
Russians and Belarusians did not participate in international tournaments in the 2022/2023 season by decision of the International Biathlon Union (IBU). The order came into effect in March 2022 and will remain in effect until further notice.
