Threads messenger is making a splash on the web. Do you know the name? It can’t be a coincidence

The Threads application, which advertises itself as an alternative to Slack, quite unexpectedly appeared on the list of hits in the App Store. Strangely enough, the new social platform of the owner of Facebook has exactly the same name. Case?

The premiere of Mark Zuckerberg’s new platform caused quite a stir on the web. Threads turned out to be almost a clone of Twitter, with which it wants to compete, which, however, did not prevent millions of people from installing the new application of the Meta conglomerate (owner of Facebook and Instagram). Now it turns out that the success of the Threads platform has benefited the messenger for business, which bears exactly the same name.

Communicator for companies has become a hit. All because of its name

Threads is a business messenger that advertises itself as an alternative to Slack, which is eagerly used by enterprises. It is used for contact between employees of one or more teams and is especially useful when working remotely. The Threads messenger debuted at the perfect time, because at the beginning of 2019, but it was never particularly successful. His sudden rise in popularity just now cannot be a coincidence.

The new social network Meta debuted two weeks ago and immediately attracted millions of users. Only in the first 24 hours, the app was downloaded by 30 million people, and after five days Only in Google Play, it currently has 50 million downloads. And this despite the fact that the portal is still not available in many countries around the world, including the entire European Union.

Meanwhile – – only between July 6 and 12, the Threads messenger (the one that is an alternative to Slack) was downloaded over 880,000 times. times – and that’s just for iOS alone. For a while, Threads was the 52nd most popular app in the world, and in the category of business apps it took third place. In some countries (including Germany, Spain and Italy) it managed to jump into the top ten of all programs in the App Store. In competing Google Play, Threads is also on the rise. It has now been downloaded over a million times.

There can be no case here. Apparently, wanting to test the new application of the Meta conglomerate as soon as possible, users mindlessly downloaded another app with the same name, which was already available on Google Play and the App Store. Although the full name of Mark Zuckerberg’s social media platform in the app stores is “Threads, an Instagram app”, it’s really easy to make a mistake. Both services operate under almost identical addresses (www.threads.com for the messenger and www.threads.net for the Meta social network), and in the European Union, after entering the phrase “Threads” in Google Play, we will see the messenger for companies at the very top of the results.
