GizChina: PlayStation 5 Pro did not get a competitor in the form of a new Xbox console

The new version of the PlayStation 5 game console will not have competitors. This is reported by the publication GizChina.

Media journalists drew attention to an interview with the head of the gaming division of Microsoft Phil Spencer, which he gave to Bloomberg. Speaking with the agency, Spencer confirmed that the company is not going to release a Pro version of the Xbox Series consoles, as it “does not consider it mandatory.”

Based on the interview, the authors concluded that the expected PlayStation 5 Pro will not receive a competitor in the form of the Xbox console. Journalists noted that instead of developing and releasing an improved version of the console, Microsoft found another way to update the console by introducing the Xbox Series S with a 1 terabyte drive.

According to the authors of GizChina, there really is not much point in releasing a Pro version of the Xbox console. Experts considered that most modern TVs do not have 8K support and are designed to work with Sony and Microsoft set-top boxes released in 2020. Also, the emergence of a new model will complicate the development of games, as studios will have to adapt their titles not to two versions of the console, but to three.

In early May, authoritative insider Tom Henderson listed the upcoming PS consoles and Sony products. According to the specialist, the corporation has begun work on the PlayStation 5 Pro and will release the device for sale in the fourth quarter of 2024.
