RFU: coach Karpin will not combine work in the national team and the club after admission to tournaments
Maxim Mitrofanov, Secretary General of the Russian Football Union (RFU), spoke about the future of coach Valery Karpin after the teams return to international tournaments. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Mitrofanov called the situation with the non-admission of Russians to competitions extraordinary and noted that now specialists have the opportunity to combine positions in the national team and Rostov. “When we return, it is logical that the club coach will only be in the club, and the national team coach will only be in the national team. There is no conflict of interest, no one can blame anyone, everyone has days off,” he said.
Russian teams and clubs have not played in international tournaments since February 2022 due to sanctions from the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations.
Karpin will lead the national team in the summer of 2021. The agreement with the coach is valid until August 2024. The specialist returned to Rostov in March 2022. He previously worked at the club from 2017 to 2021.
