A 35-year-old man was scammed while selling car accessories. The man received an SMS message with a link from the person interested in purchasing it. He was supposed to collect the payment this way, and he lost almost six thousand. gold. The police warn against messages with fake links.

A resident of the Tomaszów district fell victim to an internet scam when he wanted to sell car accessories on one of the sales portals. On April 3, the man reported the fraud to the policemen of the Poviat Police Headquarters in (Lubelskie Voivodeship).

According to the man’s account, he posed as a person interested in buying the items he offered. The 35-year-old then received an SMS with a link that would allow him to collect the payment. In doing so, he logged into a crafted mobile banking website.

“After clicking the link, the 35-year-old was redirected to his auction and then to a fake online banking website. The man entered his authorization data there, thinking that he was logging into his electronic banking” – reported the younger aspirant Małgorzata Pawłowska from the police headquarters in Tomaszów Lublin.

However, the man realized that the authorization operation took place on a phone of a different brand than his. “He immediately tried to log out and block the funds on the account via the bank’s hotline. However, as it turned out, two transfers for the amount of almost six thousand zlotys were transferred from the account” – added the aspirant Małgorzata Pawłowska.

Police officers from the Tomaszów Lubelski police station investigated the circumstances of the case and identified the perpetrators of the theft. “Never use links sent by strangers. Remember that by logging in to a fake bank website sent to us, we enable fraudsters to perform various banking operations on our accounts. Do not follow links from unreliable sources” – appeals aspirant Małgorzata Pawłowska.
