The Swedish army announced this on Monday Bans his military from using the Chinese app TikTok for security reasons on their professional mobile devicesfollowing the example of other Western countries that took similar measures.

“The use of mobile phones and tablets can itself pose a security risk. That is why we do not want TikTok in our service equipment from now on,” said a spokeswoman for the Swedish Armed Forces, Guna Graufeld.

In its decision, which AFP could consult, The Swedish military said it had relied on public information “about how the application captures user data”.

The White House, the European Commission, and the Canadian and British governments recently banned their officials from using TikTok on their work phones. The Norwegian parliament did the same last week.

TikTok could put some videos behind a paywall

The reason for these fears is in one 2017 Chinese law requiring local businesses to hand over personal data related to national security issues to authorities upon request.

China said on Friday it is not asking its companies to hand over data collected abroad as the short-video app may face a full ban in the United States.
