The Labraza wind farm project has achieved environmental authorization and that of Azazeta is “imminent”

The Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) of the wind farm of labraza is a fact, and the project of azazeta It is “imminent”, as the Minister for Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, has notified the Governing Council today. Likewise, she has estimated that the wind farm in Labraza can be executed at the end of 2024 and that of Azazeta in 2025, and that both will be in operation at the end of 2025.

In the press conference after the Governing Council, Arantxa Tapiaexplained that it is “a milestone of special relevance in Euskadi’s energy policy, and although we still have time to activate wind power generation, it is an important step forward”.

The Labraza wind farm, promoted by the Aixeindar company (formed by the Basque Energy Entity and Iberdrola) in Oyón (Álava), provides for 8 wind turbines and will have a generation capacity of 40 MW. Being a project that affects the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) and Navarra, it has required ministerial processing that has concluded favorably.

The installation of azazeta, with 8 generators and a generation capacity of 40MW, will be located in the municipalities of Alegría-Dulantzi, Iruraiz Gauna, San Millán/Donemiliaga, Arraia Maeztu and Bernedo. As in the case of Labraza, the promoter is Aixeindar. The Basque Government is currently finalizing the Environmental Impact Declaration of the Azazeta facility and the processing will be completed with the approval of the Special Plan by the Álava Provincial Council.

In any case, the environmental authorization raises protective, corrective and compensatory measureswhich should be taken into account when drafting the execution project for Labraza and Azazeta.

In addition to these two facilities, the project that would be at a more advanced stage would be the Ekienea Ekienea votevoltaic park, in Armiñón.

At this moment, the Basque Country generates 10% of the energy it consumes and the Basque Government’s goal is to reach 15% by 2030, using renewable sources.

The Territorial Renewable Energy Plan (PTS) enters another phase

Likewise, Minister Tapia has informed the Governing Council that the Territorial Sectoral Plan (PTS) for Renewable Energies —an instrument for the planning of the territory of the Basque Country— goes a step further by submitting itself to the report of the Territorial Planning Commission.
