The Eduardo Chillida Foundation will celebrate and disseminate the artist’s work on the centenary of his birth

On January 10, 2024, it will be one hundred years since he was born, in San Sebastián, Eduardo Chillidawho also died in the Gipuzkoan capital in 2002. On the occasion of the anniversary, the Eduardo Chillida-Pilar Belzunce Foundation has prepared a series of events that it has presented today in Madrid.

“The commemoration will promote a complete program of exhibitions, music, education and thought, and will become an exceptional moment to celebrate and disseminate the artist’s work,” said Luis Chillida, president of the Foundation and son of the artist.

The first event of the centenary will take place in Chillida Leku, where this spring it will be installed meeting place IVa 16-ton sculpture that belongs to the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and can be seen in the Hernani museum during the remodeling of the Bilbao museum.

In addition, the Austrian museum Kunsthalle Krems will host the first major exhibition in Austria by Eduardo Chillida with more than 80 pieces from the end of April to September.

The Chillida family has also announced that the Madrid director and screenwriter Arantxa Aguirre will film a documentary on the history and creation of Chillida Leku, and the fourth volume of the catalog raisonné of the sculptural work of Eduardo Chillida, published by the Nerea publishing house, will be published. In addition, it will launch a limited edition case that will include the four volumes.
