Twitter recently started suspending accounts for so-called doxing. It consists in collecting and publishing personal data or other private information on the web.
On Wednesday, the website belonging to Elon Musk blocked the profile of 19-year-old Jack Sweeney from Florida and the profile “ElonJet” founded by him, which showed flights of Musk’s private jet.
On Thursday, Twitter suspended the accounts of several journalists for seven days. He accused them of also revealing his whereabouts by writing about “ElonJet”, which could become “basically the coordinates of an assassination attempt” on his family.

They were blocked by Drew Harwell of the Washington Post, Aaron Rupar of the Independent, Ryan Mac of the New York Times and Donie O’Sullivan of CNN.
“Criticizing me all day is perfectly fine, but doxxing my real-time location and putting my family at risk is not anymore,” Musk said.
Elon Musk removes lockdowns
The Twitter owner has also created a poll asking users if they should immediately unblock accounts that have been suspended for doxing, or if the “punishment” should last for seven days. More than three million users took part in the survey published on Friday morning, Polish time. Almost 59 percent people voted for Elon Musk to lift the ban immediately.
“People have spoken. The blockade of accounts that “doxxed” my location will be lifted, he said on Saturday morning, Polish time.
The Vice-President of the European Commission Vera Jourova referred to the recent events on Twitter and threatened sanctions.
“Reports of arbitrary suspensions of journalists on Twitter are worrying. The EU Digital Services Act requires respect for media freedom and fundamental rights. The European Media Freedom Act confirms this. Elon Musk should be aware of this. There are limits. And sanctions, coming soon,” the post reads.
