I haven’t tested such a light laptop yet. Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon positively surprises [TOPtech]

The new Lenovo ultrabook looks great. The minimalist design, slim body and narrow frames around the screen make this equipment simply want to use. The housing of the device is made of a combination of carbon fiber and magnesium, thanks to which it weighs only a little 986 grams. This is without a doubt one of the lightest ultrabooks on the market.

Lenovo hardware has been equipped with two USB-C ports, that support the standard Thunderbolt 4. Unfortunately, we will not find a physical 3.5 mm audio output here. On the side edge, the manufacturer has placed a slider that turns the built-in webcam on and off.

It should also be mentioned about the characteristic element of the Yoga series laptops, a very solid hinge, which allows us to operate the top cover of the device in the range of up to 180 degrees.

SCREEN

In such a compact design, it was possible to fit quite a large one, because over 13 inch aspect ratio touchscreen 16:10 and resolution 2560 x 1600 pixels. It is true that it is an IPS matrix, not an OLED, but it is difficult to have any reservations about the contrast, maximum brightness black or color saturation. Watching movies on this laptop is pure pleasure.

It is also nice that we can increase the screen refresh rate to 90 Hz, which translates into even smoother operation of the device. However, if we care more about longer battery life, the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon also offers a standard refresh rate of 60 Hz.

PERFORMANCE

The Lenovo laptop has been equipped in the fast 12th generation Intel Core i7 chipand from the P series, 16GB RAM and disk NVMe SSDs of a capacity 1TB. I must admit that I was positively surprised by how efficient this computer turned out to be. I expected that its design would negatively affect the speed of operation. None of these things.

The fact that it is already impressive instead of the ultra-low-voltage U-series processor, the manufacturer used a much more powerful Alder Lake-P system with two additional performance cores.

This difference can be seen both during tests in the Cinebench R23 application and in everyday use. Lenovo equipment can cope not only with typical office work, Office package or with 15 tabs in the Chrome browser, but also with basic graphics and video editing, slightly less demanding games.

Yoga Slim 7i maintains a good working culture, although it happens that the cooling system makes itself felt at high processor load – however, it is not bothersome at all.

CAMERA AND KEYBOARD

About the built-in 720p webcam, I can basically only say that it is there and does its job. Video quality during calls is average, not to say mediocre.

I wasn’t impressed with the keyboard either. While I have no objections to the layout and size of the keys, that’s it their jump is far too shallow. This is a bit of a surprise, because Lenovo can make excellent keyboards, as evidenced by those installed in ThinkPad laptops.

BATTERY

As for the built-in battery, I expected a bit more from it. 6-7 hours of work on a single charge with Wi-Fi on quite decent, but not a sensational result.

However, I realize that the application more efficient Alder Lake-P system to some extent it must have negatively affected the battery life.

It is also a pity that the manufacturer did not equip the device with fast charging technology. yoga from 0 to 100 percent charge in about 2.5 hours, which is not a very glorious result.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon is a beautiful and ultra-compact laptop with an excellent touch screen that positively surprises with its efficiency and work culture. It would be a device close to ideal, if not for the averagely comfortable keyboard and average battery life.
