Cristiano Ronaldo received bonus from Manchester United before asking to leave the club, says newspaper

The name of Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be the subject of much controversy in the transfer window. The Portuguese recently expressed his desire to leave the Manchester United, generating an uproar in the market. However, according to the British newspaper The Sun, the star received a six-figure payday before stating he wanted to leave the club.

The bonus, however, was foreseen for the beginning of Cristiano’s second year of contract. A source kept anonymous by the tabloid said that the bonds are renewed at the beginning of July and, after the payment of the amount, the news came out that the striker aimed at a future wearing the shirt of another team.

It is a strategy by the English club to balance finances and use gloves to reduce the amounts spent on salaries. The same has recently happened with athletes like Pogba and Alexis Sánchez.

Despite being a combined payment between the parties, the moment when Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his desire to leave the club, just after receiving the amount, would have left club officials intrigued.

Still with 12 months on his contract, the Portuguese star is still available to negotiate with other teams, but there is nothing concrete, at the moment, with any other club. The Manchester United squad is on tour in Thailand and Australia, but Cristiano has not traveled with the team.

Even with the desire to leave, shirt 7 was the highlight of last season, with 24 goals scored and three assists in 38 matches played.
