More than 23 million ticket orders have FIFA for the Qatar 2022 World Cup

Qatar has registered 23,500,000 ticket requests during the second phase of ticket sales for the 2022 World Cup, which will take place from November 21 to December 18, FIFA announced this Friday.

“The eight countries that have requested the most tickets are England, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, the United States, France, Mexico and Qatar,” the Federation said in a statement.

This sale phase, closed on Thursday, was launched on April 5. A lottery will decide the distribution of tickets among the applicants.

Argentine fans seem to be among the most interested: the three games of the ‘Albiceleste’ in the group stage are among the four games with the most ticket requests.

Ticket applicants will be informed by mail about the sale of their order from May 31.

During the first sales phase, organized between January 19 and February 8, 804,186 tickets were allocated, with nearly 17 million requests.

In total there will be a little less than 3 million available (2 million for sale and one more destined for FIFA and its collaborators). Between 1.2 and 1.4 million people are expected to flock to the emirate during the event.

A final “last minute” sale phase is planned, the dates of which are not yet known. In this phase, there will be no draw, so the beneficiaries will be the fastest to enter the sale.

For spectators from abroad, the prices of individual tickets for the first round are between 250 and 800 Qatari riyals (between $68.4 and $218.8) for a match. For the final, it would be between 2,200 and 5,850 riyals ($601.9 and $1,600.5).

Fares for tickets booked by Qatari residents are between 40 and 750 riyals each (between $10.9 and $205.2). On average, they are 30% more expensive than those of the previous World Cup event, Russia 2018. (D)
