An investigation into the events in October last year led to an exoneration of Baldwin, so police released footage of the set made on the day of the tragedy. Including the latest shots by Halyna Hutchins.
There is a moment in the materials where Alec Baldwin pulls out a pistol just before the shot that turned out to be fatal for the operator. There are also shots showing the arrival of the police at the scene. The very moment of the shot was not made available to the public.
One of the recordings shows Baldwin talking to the police at the scene, admitting that he was holding the gun.
The police also provided, inter alia, photos from police cameras showing paramedics assisting the operator. Hutchins died in hospital as a result of her injuries.
In the wake of the cinematographer’s death and the director’s injuries on the set of Rust, New Mexico authorities began a series of investigations. In the course of one of them it was found that the producers of the film with Alek Baldwin in the lead role showed “simple indifference” to the reported by the members of the film crew accidents involving weapons and “deliberately violated” all known safety procedures in the film industry. Therefore, they were fined with the maximum amount provided for by local law.
Investigators found that the producers practically made it impossible for the armorers to work, incl. entrusting her with other duties, so she could not check exactly the weapon that was given to Alec Baldwin. The actor, however, was assured that this one was loaded with blank ammunition. To determine how live ammunition ended up in the magazine of the pistol used on the set, a separate investigation is underway.
