Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev explained why he refused to play at the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) tournament in Barcelona. His words are quoted by Sport-Express.
The athlete said that last year the Spanish organizers behaved ugly. “When I started asking questions, I was told that everything would change this year. But it got worse. You need to know your worth, you can’t allow yourself to be treated like that, ”said Rublev.
On April 24, Rublev won the ATP tournament in Belgrade. In the final, he beat the world number one Serb Novak Djokovic. The meeting ended in three sets with a score of 6:2, 6:7 (4:7), 6:0. This victory was the 11th for the Russian at the ATP tournaments.
Rublev is eighth in the ATP rankings. The best result for a Russian was the fifth line of the rating in September 2021. At the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Andrei Rublev became the champion in the mixed doubles together with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
