The Russian authorities announced this Monday a unilateral ceasefire starting at 2:00 p.m. (local time) in order to facilitate the launch of a humanitarian corridor with which to evacuate the civilians who resist alongside the Ukrainian troops in the Azovstal metallurgical plant in the city of Mariupol.
The head of the National Defense Control Center, Colonel General Mikhail Mizintsevexplained that both the Russian troops and the militia forces of the Donetsk Republic have decided to unilaterally cease “any type of hostilities” to ensure the departure of civilians.
For her part, the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Irina Vereshchukhas denied the existence of the corridor announced by Russia and has asserted that “unfortunately” there are no agreements between the parties to open them from Azovstal.
Vereshchuk has explained that the humanitarian corridors are opened if there is an agreement between the two parties and one opened unilaterally by Moscow “it does not provide security and therefore it is not a humanitarian corridor”has collected the Ukrainian news portal Babel.
The Ukrainian deputy prime minister has also indicated that the authorities have asked the UN secretary general, Antonio Guterreswhich would ensure the opening of a corridor for civilians in Azovstal.
Next week, I will meet with President Vladimir Putin in Russia and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Ukraine.

“In particular, we request that representatives of the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross be present in the humanitarian column,” he clarified, before expressing that kyiv expects “effectiveness” in the talks between Guterres and Russia.
Last week the runners failed humanitarian aid announced to evacuate the civilians who are still resisting in Mariupol, one of the main objectives that Russian President Vladimir Putin has set for himself in order to continue advancing in what he has called a “special military operation”.
With one of the main ports in the entire country, the city of Mariupol seems to be a key player in Moscow’s aspirations to prevent Ukraine from entering the sea and unite the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk with the Crimean peninsula, as well under the Russian umbrella.
