United prepares the release of 12 players: see the list

Manchester United’s next manager, Dutchman Erik ten Hag is preparing a complete overhaul of the team, with the departure of numerous players. The information is from the English periodical mirror, who called the restructuring proposed by the still Ajax coach the biggest for the club since Sir Alex Ferguson 40 years ago.

Liverpool’s 4-0 rout, this Tuesday, showed the distance between the quality and capacity of the Red Devils squad for the teams that lead the English Championship, mainly Liverpool and Manchester City. So, the team’s fifth manager since Ferguson’s departure, plans 12 player names outside the squad for next season.

Check out who should leave United:

Paul Pogba

The most expensive signing in history at the time, the French world champion rarely showed his best football at United. Despite a good start to the season, but still far from his best performance, Pogba has a contract with the English club until July this year and will not renew, being able to leave for free.

Jesse Lingard

Another one whose contract expires at the end of this season and will not renew with the Red Devils is Jesse Lingard. The English midfielder was not being used and was loaned to West Ham in early 2021, making good starts for the east London club. He was asked back four months, but he couldn’t keep up his good performances.

Edinson Cavani

The 35-year-old Uruguayan striker joined United for free in October 2020 and, despite scoring 19 goals for the team, lost ground after the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo. Also, the presence of two vets doesn’t seem like a good idea for Ten Hag. With a contract ending in July and with no prospect of renewal, Cavani should leave at no cost to his future destination.

Nemanja Matic

In the team since 2017, the Serbian midfielder is another one whose contract expires at the end of the season. Matic had already announced this week that he will not continue with the Manchester team and has already been speculated on in José Mourinho’s Roma. So far there have been 185 games played, four goals and nine assists for United.

Juan Mata

Another player over 30 years old who ends his contract at the end of the season is midfielder Juan Mata. The Spaniard has been a player for the club since 2014 and has revealed the will to pursue a career on the edge of the field, outside the four lines. Mata’s future is still uncertain, but he will not continue as a Manchester player.

Lee Grant

The 39-year-old English goalkeeper Lee Grant, the team’s reserve, has only made two appearances since 2018. With his contract also expiring in July, the player will not continue with the Red Devils.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

The right-back was hired in 2019 for 50 million euros and soon assumed the title of the team. However, he has not been following the good performances of before this season and has even lost his place to Portuguese Diogo Dalot in recent games, joining the list of players that will be placed on the market and can be sold in the next window.

Eric Bailly

The 28-year-old centre-back has been at United since 2016. Oscillating between first-team and substitutes since arriving, Bailly has been suffering from physical injuries and has lost space in the squad after additions to the squad in the position. With only seven games left this season, the player will be put up for sale and must seek a new destination.

Phil Jones

Another defender who must leave the club is Phil Jones. In the team since 2011, the 30-year-old player was out for more than two years due to a serious knee injury, when he was re-listed in January in a match against Wolverhampton. However, even so, he adds only three games in the entire season.

Alex Telles

The Brazilian side is another one that will be put up for sale at the request of ten Hag. Despite having recently arrived at Manchester, October 2020, and having a starting average of around 40%, Telles’ defensive fragility does not please the Dutch coach, who should put him on the transfer list next summer.

Anthony Martial

On loan to Sevilla, Anthony Martial had not been used at the club. Despite a return forecast in June 2022, at the end of the loan, the French striker, who has never performed as expected at the club, is not part of the new coach’s plans and should be put up for sale.

Marcus Rashford

Despite having been the highlight and best player of the team before, shirt 10 does not have a good season. Trained in United’s youth categories and in the professional squad since 2016, Rashford has played, so far, in 301 matches, scored 93 goals and provided 57 assists. With the drop in income, Rashford lost space in the starting lineup and is already interested in other European clubs, like PSG.
